A large German-inspired market of wooden chalets in the grounds of Winchester Cathedral, running for about five weeks before Christmas.
Winchester Cathedral's Christmas market fills the cathedral's Inner and Outer Close with wooden chalets in the style of a traditional German Christmas market. For 2026 the cathedral plans 128 chalets, including a Makers' Market for skilled local craftspeople, a food court, a nativity scene and an interactive area, and it says the market draws more than 110,000 visitors a year.
Traders are selected for quality gifts not found on the high street, with a focus on local, sustainable and artisan products. Entry is free with no booking needed, and visitors can combine the market with Advent services, concerts and visits inside the cathedral.
The cathedral advises that weekends get very busy, so if you are bringing a dog, pushchair or wheelchair, a weekday visit is more comfortable. Coach groups must book a free arrival slot, and park and ride is available south of the city.
