A Victorian-themed late-night shopping evening in the Dartmoor market town of Tavistock, with costumed shopkeepers, a lantern parade, the Christmas lights switch-on and festive stalls.

Tavistock's Dickensian Evening is a one-night festive event run by Tavistock BID. Shops stay open late and many shopkeepers dress in Victorian costume, while chestnuts roast on steam engines and the streets fill with stilt walkers, choirs, bands and street entertainers.

The evening opens with a lantern parade and the town's Christmas lights switch-on. Craft, food, drink and gift stalls are set up around the town centre and inside the Butchers' Hall, and there is an old-fashioned merry-go-round for children.

In 2025 there was free town-centre parking from 3pm and a free Park & Ride from Morrisons car park. The 2024 outdoor event was cancelled because of Storm Darragh.
